Katie graduated from the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, Edinburgh in 2011. After working in small animal and exotic practice across the UK she joined Lawrie Vets in 2015. Her main areas of interest are in exotic animal medicine, and in small animal soft tissue surgery. She completed her Post Graduate Certificate in Exotic Animal Practice in 2021. Katie provides veterinary care for some of our zoological caseload which can mean treating creatures of all shapes and sizes - including brown bears, giant anteaters and lemurs. Through the summer months a large proportion of her avian work involves care of raptors. One of her favourite things about working at Lawrie's is that you can guarantee that no two days are ever the same!
Katie became Director of Practice and Clinical Services in 2021 and has been involved in our practice expanding from 2 clinics to 4. As part of her role, she regularly speaks to other clinics within IVC to promote the care of our exotic pets across the country.
Outside of work, Katie is a keen birdwatcher. She is currently a trainee bird ringer with the BTO and member of the Scottish Raptor Study Group, and enjoys days spent out exploring the hills as part of raptor monitoring. She shares home with her two rescue parrots Freya and Merlin, and her elderly cats Maisie and Harley.
